Weekly Soap

Happy Weekend people! I know this isn’t a normal day for us but, I wanted to give you this word!

Let’s get into it.

Psalms 32

*Although the Weekly Soap does not cover the entire chapter, I encourage you to read it!*

Scripture:

I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, ,”I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah,” (Psalms 32:5)

Observation: Psalm 32 is a Maschil, which enforces insight, or a lesson of wisdom. Leading up to verse 5, David highlighted the joy in being forgiven by God, knowing that sin is gone. Our record is made clean in Him. However, for those who refuse to confess, the toll of sin doesn’t weigh heavily on just the soul, but the body. God’s discipline is on those who sin without repentance day and night; they are weakened because of it. However, the shift came in verse 5. When he confessed his sin, he was hidden no more. Instead of condemning himself, he brought it before God, for he knew that he was making mistakes. He confessed his ill-will to God. He could no longer run, but God forgave him. God washed his guilt away.

Application: The lesson of wisdom starts with the confession of sin. From the very beginning, those who are forgiven are living blessed life. They live guilt-free because they serve God who washed away every sin. On top of this, with the confession of sin to God, there is a life of honesty that follows. God knows and sees our faults, but we have to be truthful with ourselves and to Him about this. We should often pray for the forgiveness of our sin. Be honest with God and let Him know you’re struggling. He understands and removes the weight and burden from us. In verses 3-4, sin ages the body; it’s a stressor that’s altogether physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. But we serve God who alleviates this! So, why is confession so important? Because we are no longer hiding; we are opening ourselves up to let God in. In Genesis 3:7-10, Adam and Eve hid from God once they had sinned. Instead of talking to God, they hid from HIm. Eventually, their hiding resulted in consequences for the entire human race. Just like a child, the punishment/consequence seems smaller when you admit it, than when you hide it. Our relationship with God should be open. Because of the blood of the Lamb, God forgives and gives us another chance to get it right. You don’t have to live a stressful life burdened by sin. Live stress-free in God. He will take care of you.

Prayer: God, I thank you for being a merciful God even when I don’t deserve it. I repent Lord and confess my sins to you, those that I have voiced to you and those that I haven’t. God, your forgiveness wipes away the shame and guilt of sin, and I’m so thankful for it. Lord, I give over every burden so I can trust you. Teach me God how to live guilt-free in you and to be honest with myself with you. Thank you, God for your forgiveness. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
