Exposed Part 1

Vulnerability: n. the quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally. (Oxford Languages)

Why does this word illicit fear yet longing? It’s a gateway to intimacy but heavily guarded.

I guess you could say I struggle with this. Who wants to willingly open up with such risks at hand? It’s self-preservation, protecting myself from emotional harm that I did not want to endure. However, in being changed by the Most High, I realized that this would soon become very important to me.

So, how does vulnerability work in our relationship with God?

Our acceptance of Jesus Christ into our hearts brought about the love and joy inexplicable to that of man. The realization that the blood of the Lamb pardoned us from our sins and made us new gives meaning to life and living. In times of trouble, God is always there and we ask for help from Him when we’re stuck. He provides the guidance and instruction that we need in that moment and for the future. In all this, we expose ourselves to God, hoping that He continuously clothes us in grace and mercy. But what about when He exposes us?

What I’m getting at here is the prayer of “God, let me see me.”

This 5-word prayer opens an awareness of what’s in our hearts and unearths parts of us not seen.

9 “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things,
    and desperately wicked.
Who really knows how bad it is?
10 But I, the Lord, search all hearts
    and examine secret motives.
I give all people their due rewards,
according to what their actions deserve.”

Jeremiah 17:9-10 NLT

In a new series of blogs, I will expound upon my struggles and lessons learned from being exposed by God.
